The Children’s Preschool is a private, nonprofit, cooperative community that serves up to twenty-nine three- to five-year-old children in a single, mixed-age class. Renowned for its team of expert, devoted teachers and a nurturing family atmosphere, this non-sectarian school is located in the carriage house of the First Unitarian Universalist Society, whose members helped found the school in 1971. The school is adjacent to a large, fenced playground and community garden, in the heart of the historic East Rock neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut.
Each student attends school five days a week. There are three options for families. Children can enroll in (1) the full-day program (8:00-5:30), (2) the morning program (8:00-1:00), or (3) every morning and some afternoons.
The Children’s Preschool is open from early September through late June. A seven-week, optional summer program runs from late June through early August.
The Children’s Preschool is a nonprofit (501c3), non-sectarian child care center licensed by the State of Connecticut and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We welcome children of any race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, and ability.
